Hoarding as a Disorder

Hoarding disorder and obsessive-compulsive disorder are commonly associated with one another. Not long ago, hoarding was considered one symptom of OCD. However, in the latest edition of DSM-5, the former is recognized as a disorder on its own.

There are various phenomena that can lead to the development of hoarding disorder among individuals i.e. biology, trauma and genetics. Before this behavior causes any significant damage to a person’s life, his health, social relationships and others, it is important that professional help is sought.
