Hoarding as an Anxiety Disorder

clutter inside the roomFor most people, a house becoming cluttered and unclean can be a cause for worry and anxiety. We start to think about how we can keep it free from dirt and clutter. But, there are also those who prefer to have their homes filled with clutter – they are the ones who suffer from hoarding disorder. Putting it simply, when a person starts accumulating things that have no real value, then that’s hoarding.

According to Stephanie Turner, “Hoarding is identified as an anxiety disorder – better classified as an obsessive-compulsive disorder, said Lynn Rutland-Addy, a counselor at Southern Counseling Associates.”
