Things You Shouldn’t Say to a Hoarder

Things You Shouldn't Say to a HoarderLiving with someone who is messy can be downright frustrating for most people, especially if you have to clean up after their mess. Imagine how tougher it is to live with someone who has a hoarding problem, with not only untidiness to deal with but also tons of useless things that you may even consider as trash. Although you feel your personal space and time are no longer respected, it is important to still be considerate of the person’s feelings and understand that he or she is undergoing a difficult disorder.

When communicating with someone who is a hoarder, here are things you should avoid saying:
  • “You don’t care about yourself or your environment.”
  • “You don’t care about how your clutter affects me.”
  • “You must have a disorganized mind.”
  • “It’s not important for you to have things organized.”
  • “You’re a slob!”
  • “Your stuff is more important than me!”
  • “Just throw it away! It’s no big deal!”
  • “You don’t need to keep that.”
  • “You’re never going to use/wear that.”
  • “Just get rid of it. You won’t miss it.”

I am so impressed with the job that Gregg and Karen did for my aunt's home. Not only did they take the time to explain thorougly what they were going to do, but they did EXACTLY as they promised.

We never expected to get the sales price for the house that we ended up getting. If you had seen my aunt's home before they started, you would know why. By the time the job was done, the house looked totally transformed.

Needless to say... I highly recommend their services!
